Lucasfilm was afraid to make a bold Star Wars film about a grown-up Rey

The announcement of the new film Star Wars: The New Jedi Order took place back in 2023, but production has not yet begun.

Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) was at one point writing the script, but last month it was announced he had been replaced. In an interview with The Telegraph Knight spoke about his experience working within a Hollywood franchise and his attempt to do something unique.

Although Knight left the project several months ago, he expects Lucasfilm to retain some of the concepts from his script.

There is a system, and when you interact with it, you understand what it is. You do your part, you turn in your draft or drafts like I did, and then the system moves on. I expect a lot of what I did will be in the film. But who knows?

The New Jedi Order faces creative difficulties

The project was announced at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, when it was announced that Daisy Ridley would be returning to the role of Rey. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) is set to direct.

Filming of the blockbuster was planned to begin in 2024, but they decided to rewrite the script. Knight was hired. Apparently, Lucasfilm bosses didn’t like his story, so they invited “The Bourne Ultimatum” screenwriter George Nolfi to rewrite the plot.

Ridley herself says that the film will live up to expectations. Story details are being kept under wraps, but it is rumored to take place 15 years afterStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Sunrise.

If everything goes according to the current plan, the premiere could take place in 2028. In 2026, The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released, and in 2027, a project from Shawn Levy (Deadpool and Wolverine) is expected.
