Journalist Caleb Williams reported that Lucasfilm has already chosen a director for the new Star Wars trilogy, which is being developed by writer and producer Simon Kinberg:

“A little detail... A director has been found for the new Star Wars trilogy based on the script by Simon Kinberg. Kinberg himself was not considered for this position. Production is rapidly gaining momentum, and filming could begin as early as next year.”

The development of the trilogy became known in November 2024. Kinberg, who previously worked on the Star Wars Rebels animated series, will write and produce all three films. At the beginning of 2026, Kathleen Kennedy said that the author reworked the plot and prepared a detailed outline of about 70 pages.

There are no other official details about the new trilogy yet. According to Entertainment Weekly, the films will begin a new story and will not be a direct continuation of the Skywalker saga. The plot, cast and release dates have not yet been disclosed.
