The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is scheduled to open its doors on September 22, but the grand opening took place on Saturday, September 19, with George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson in attendance. It was the largest event in Los Angeles, attended by many celebrities.

TheWrap Editor-in-Chief Sharon Waxman wrote on social media: “I have never seen such a concentration of influential people, A-list celebrities, politicians and industry VIPs in one building in my life.”

According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, the list included Oprah Winfrey, Christopher Nolan, Guillermo Del Toro, Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Peter Jackson, Laura Dern, Mark Hamill, Samuel L. Jackson, Spike Lee, Greta Gerwig, Lee Daniels, Nicolas Cage, Francis Ford Coppola, Michael B. Jordan, David Oyelowo, Kim Kardashian, Lewis Hamilton, Keke Palmer, Camila Cabello, Tracee Ellis Ross, Chris Tucker, Queen Latifah, Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau, Diane Warren, Eve Longoria, Robert Rodriguez, Josh D'Amaro, Ted Sarandos, Bryce Dallas Howard and Ron Howard, Jon M. Chu, Janelle Monae, Pharrell Williams, Jon Batiste, Vin Diesel, Helen Hunt, George R.R. Martin, Emily Deschanel, Kerry Washington, Cynthia Erivo, Keegan-Michael Key, Tyler Perry, Arianna Huffington, Nancy Pelosi, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom.

The 11-acre campus, home to Lucas' 40,000-piece art collection, will become a major new landmark in Los Angeles. Queen Latifah, a close friend of Lucas and Hobson, opened the ceremony, emphasizing the impression that the picture made on those present:

“No one gets the chance to attend such an evening. No one was in the room when the doors of the Museum of Modern Art opened, or the Louvre in 1793, or the Metropolitan Museum of Art... so we have to feel the weight of this moment, because it is incredible. When you look around, you might want to meet your friends tonight; we are all artists who admire each other, but I encourage you to internalize it. Let these artists speak to you."

On September 22, a new institution is born, designed to change our perception of art. In Paris there is the Louvre, in New York - the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and now in Los Angeles there is a Lucas Museum equal to its artistic status.

The project took a very long time to develop. Construction began in 2018 and has since been plagued by ongoing delays and management problems, most recently with Lucas stepped in and
took the position of chief content officer . When it opens on Tuesday, visitors will be able to see a variety of props fromStar Wars, murals, comic books, cinematic artifacts and more. It is located in downtown Los Angeles.
