In a new interview with the development team of Star Wars: Galactic Racer, the creators of the game said that,
Despite the previously stated focus on developing the base game, expansion packs (DLC) for the game are planned for the future.

In an interview with Shacknews Interviews, Lucasfilm Games executive producer Craig Derrick and Fuse Games CEO Matt Webster were interviewed after the press praised their new game. The game seems to be off to a good start based on early positive reviews, and Lucasfilm Games and Fuse Games would like to capitalize on this success. Webster has confirmed that there will be a lot more to come after the launch of Galactic Racer:

“Yes, there will be some more after the launch. What exactly... I will answer on this score: “No comment.”

It's been a very long time since Star Wars has embraced racing as a creative outlet, from the high-speed Racer game of the first episode to the wildly different takes on the frantic kart racing Super Bombad Racing and the more traditional sequel Racer Revenge - before suddenly ending it very for a long time. Derrick explains that the resumption of work on the project now was the result of a combination of several commercial and creative factors that came together in the best possible way:

“It's been [27 years] since Star Wars:Galactic Racer was released, and finding the right partner, the right story, and the right time to make any game is important to us. Fuse Games approached us with the idea of creating a racing game based on the experience they offered us. We felt it was the right time to work on it and develop it.When we started, we already had the plot, the characters, and an idea of what it really meant... It all starts with a great partner coming to us with a great idea, and then we develop it together. Star Wars: Galactic Racerfeels big. This is not a sequel to any of the previous racing games. This is a completely new racing game. It's on a larger scale, as Matt describes. It covers much more than just podracing. This is multiple vehicle types, multi vehicle racing. Its story takes place immediately after ["Return of the Jedi"], during the fall of the Galactic Empire, the rise of the New Republic, and through…” There are a lot of new characters and experiences to create here. Therefore, with the titleGalactic Racer, the game feels like something new, and at the same time it can be a spiritual successor to everything that came before... But it is not just a game.”

It is noteworthy that the word “sub-racer” is missing from the title of the game. According to Webster, this was a conscious decision to highlight the variety of vehicles that players will be able to use:

“For us, a Star Wars racing game just couldn't be complete without pod racing, but we wanted to add a new experience to it. Of course, [we had to] bring it to life in this incredible fantasy atmosphere of racing on these incredible pods... We're going to do it in fresh and interesting ways in the campaign. If you want to go into arcade mode and just get behind the wheel of a pod - yes, you can do that, but we also have speeders... You'll race landspeeders, speederbikes, and a brand new vehicle called the skimspeeder - and of course, pod racing will make an appearance too.[In our history], after the end of the [Galactic Civil War], there was such technological advancement in engines and vehicles that everything changed; people were looking for entertainment and thrill, and now they have these incredible cars to do it with, and racing is coming to the fore... People are looking for more thrills as entertainment becomes more accessible. And this is where the founder of [Galactic] “Darius Pax proposes to create this [racing league].”

The full interview, which goes into detail about the plot, setting and characters of
Galactic Racer, can be viewed below:

The game takes place between the fall of the Galactic Empire and the war against the First Order. A racer named Shade teams up with Darius Pax of the Galactic League to take down Kestar Bul, a racer they both harbor animosity towards. The gameplay is described as more arcade-style than many modern games in the series, and the game itself is a clear spiritual successor to Star Wars: Episode I Racerand Star Wars: Racer Revenge. Players will have the opportunity to explore a variety of planets associated with the films, as well as never-before-seen locations, providing gameplay where almost anything can happen on the track.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer will be released on October 6, 2026 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
