Disney and Lucasfilm management announced a meeting dedicated to the future of films and TV series in the Star Wars universe.

For the first time, apparently, after large-scale changes in management both Disney and Lucasfilm, the new heads of the parent company and its subsidiary reported a meeting on the future of theStar Warsfranchise in cinema.

Disney President Dana Walden posted a new group photo from the Rebel Asylum employee break room following a recent meeting to discuss future projects in a galaxy far, far away. Also in the photo were executives and content creators from both sides of the company, such as CEO Josh D'Amaro and Chairman Alan Bergman, Lucasfilm President and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni, and Co-President Lynwen Brennan. The post on the social network can be seen below:

Bergman also spoke out, sharing the same photo and adding the following message:

“It's always a pleasure to sit down with our Lucasfilm team and discuss the many exciting projects in development. Don't miss the final episodes of Star Wars: Maul - Master of Shadowson Disney+ on May 4, and The Mandalorian and Groguin theaters on May 22!

Among those who commented on Bergman's post was Lucasfilm Animation's Athena Yvette Portillo, who mentioned that the group also visited the animation division.

Filoni and Brennan succeeded Kathleen Kennedy as president of Lucasfilm in January.Since then, the company has produced the majority of the animated seriesMaul: Lord of Shadowsand is preparing to release its first Star Warsfeature film since December 2019,The Mandalorian and Grogu, which Filoni co-wrote and executive produced. Filoni is also the showrunner, writer and director of the second season ofAhsoka , which could premiere on Disney Plus later this year. There is practically no other news about new projects other thanStar Wars: Starfighterso far. An unchanged remaster of the original film is also scheduled to be released in theaters on February 19, 2027.

D'Amaro has been Disney CEO for just over a month and has already faced a number of corporate and branding challenges, including OpenAI's refusal to participate in the Sora project after Disney's public investment in the company, a bet on Epic Games, which may turn out to be unsuccessful, and early renewal of the company's broadcasting licenses. However, its influence on the creative side of the company has not yet been felt.

It's more to Walden's liking for now, after being promoted from head of the television division to president of the company. The strategy for streaming and film distribution projects will be determined in the coming months. So far, it seems that Disney is not as interested in creating a large number of expensive series for streaming platforms as in the past, at least not from Marvel or Lucasfilm, and prefers to focus on theatrical releases. However, the only significant announcement since the new heads of Disney and Lucasfilm took over was the renewal of the series “Maul: Lord of Shadows” season.

The two teams will likely meet again at the world premiere of The Mandalorian and Grogunext month.
