A new VR game based on the Star Wars universe from ILM was released on October 7 on Meta Quest 3 and 3S
Star Wars: Beyond Victory is a project from ILM (Industrial Light & Magic), a studio known for Vader Immortal and Tales from the Galaxy's Edge. The game offers three modes: a story-driven “Adventure” mode, an arcade mode about pod racing, and a “Playset” mode in which you can move characters and vehicles from “Star Wars” into your own room.
The story mode is approximately two hours long and takes players into the world of Empire-era sub-racing (and also contains references to the Han Solo film). Arcade mode allows you to race on a holographic table right in your room, which is more reminiscent of playing in an arcade machine than a classic racing race. Well, “Playset” makes it possible to transfer characters and vehicles from the Star Wars universe into mixed reality - it turns out something like virtual toys in your home.
Critics note that the story mode and acting in it are done at a high level and convey the atmosphere of “Star Wars” well, but the racing part in mixed reality feels a little limited. It's also a little confusing to constantly switch between VR and MR, but many praise the Playset mode for being able to recreate favorite movie scenes featuring famous characters.
