As the first new Star Wars film in a decade, The Force Awakens was set to breathe new life into the franchise. The studio managed to successfully return the beloved world to the big screens with the help of newcomers. However, familiar faces could not help but return.

In addition to Han Solo and Chewbacca, Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker returned to the film. Bringing back iconic characters was an important part of the marketing campaign, but Mark Hamill was initially unsure if he wanted to return.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the actor explained why he was hesitant to sign up for the sequel trilogy and said, which prompted him to return to work.

I thought this would be a mistake. You can't catch lightning in a bottle twice - they should really focus on the new generation of characters. And I thought, “Well, Harrison [Ford] isn’t going to do this anyway.” It was clear that he was irritated by the constant need to talk about Han Solo. As soon as I found out in the press that he accepted the offer, I felt like I had been chosen - because if I was the only one who said no, I would become the most hated person among geeks.

Luke Skywalker was supposed to return

The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy attempted, with varying degrees of success, to combine the old and the new by continuing the stories of the characters from the original trilogy. Several years after the release ofThe Rise of Skywalker. RisingIt’s hard to imagine episodes 7-9 without Luke, Han and Leia.

Luke was perhaps the most important character to be brought back to the screen. Someone was needed who could replace Obi-Wan as a mentor to the newcomers. And although inThe Force Awakensthis task fell to Han, Rey still needed a teacher to help her understand the Force. Who is better than Luke Skywalker?

As a result, we can say that the return of Skywalker was successful. Some fans will agree that there was no need to continue the story, but Luke's particular story arc was worthy. Khammil has no plans to return to the role.
