Lucasfilm has announceda new novel, Low Red Moon, set in the Star Wars universe. An official prequel to the Star Wars Outlaws video game, the book tells the story of how the battle droid ND-5 meets a young man, Jalen Vrax, who is running away from his past.

Low Red Moon takes the reader into the darkest depths of the galaxy, where before the eyes of Jaylen Barsha, the successor of a powerful industrial dynasty, his entire world collapses. Falsely accused of plotting against the Empire, his family is brutally attacked by a droid programmed to destroy them all. Jaylen manages to survive and, in a desperate act to save herself, reprograms the killer droid. From now on, the only way out is to give up your identity and be reborn as Jaylen Vraks.

The droid known as ND-5 was created for war, but now that there is no conflict to fight, its existence has no meaning. By treating him with respect and humanity, Jaylen sparks something new in him: the possibility of being more than just a weapon. Thus begins a mutual trust between two survivors in search of answers, revenge and perhaps redemption.

The two take refuge in the galaxy's underworld, earning a reputation among criminals, bounty hunters and crime syndicates. But when a major robbery reveals clues about who is behind the attack on Barsha, the choice becomes crucial: pursue the truth or pursue power? Will their fragile union be able to withstand the burden of the past?

Prequel novel Low Red Moon will be available on February 3, 2026
