Star Wars Outlaws on Switch 2 is having performance issues

[Monday, September 1, 2025]

During PAX West 2025, Good Vibes Gaming (GVG) was given access to a private demo of Star Wars Outlaws on Switch 2. Although Ubisoft did not allow recording, the impressions shared by the channel were not very encouraging.

According to GVG, the game is unstable, with resolution and frame rate dropping, dropping below 30 frames per second at various points. Testing included only indoor scenes and space combat, no open world scenes, which means performance may be even lower.

Although the Switch 2 version uses ray tracing and DLSS, the game's visuals appear to vary significantly, overall performing much lower than the PS5 and PC versions.

Ubisoft has confirmed to me that they are using both DLSS and ray tracing. I was hoping that DLSS would help maintain at least a stable 30fps, but I don't think we'll see that here.

Ray tracing looks great on Stormtrooper armor and Destroyer surfaces, but I wasn't impressed with the space combat. My main question is: if DLSS is used, what resolution is being scaled? Because I noticed that with the main character, her personal lighting looks a little flat. Her hair didn't render very well.

The channel also claims that unlike other ports we've seen for Switch 2, Outlaws feels like an adaptation that makes big sacrifices, reminiscent of the original Switch's problematic ports.

It feels like we've returned to a time when the original ports of PS4 or PS5 games on Switch looked noticeably worse. We haven't seen this before on Switch 2. Most Switch 2 ports are very similar to the current-gen versions, but in Star Wars Outlaws the graphical shortcuts are noticeable right from the start.

The publication claims that since Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled to release on Switch 2 on September 4, 2025, we are unlikely to see any significant differences from what was shown at the event.
