Ubisoft cancels Star Wars Outlaws 2 amid poor sales

Last year's release of Massive Entertainment's open-world action-adventure Star Wars Outlaws brought Ubisoft more disappointment than excitement, and it appears the French publisher has decided not to release a sequel to the game.

Recall that Star Wars Outlaws did not achieve the required indicators and did not live up to Ubisoft's hopes. According to the Insider Gaming portal, sales of the game in the first month on the market amounted to 1 million copies.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently admitted that the failures of Star Wars Outlaws were caused by technical issues that accompanied the release problems and declining popularity of the Star Wars brand.

Verified insider Tom Henderson, in a recent Insider Gaming podcast, citing his sources

Ubisoft has canceled development of Star Wars Outlaws 2 "very, very" early, Henderson said. The game was in the plans, but recently the company's management decided that let's not do it.

Star Wars Outlaws was released on August 30, 2024 on PC (Ubisoft Connect, EGS), PS5, Xbox Series X and S, reached Steam, and will be released on Switch 2 on September 4, 2025. After the release, the game received two add-ons - Wild Card and A Pirate's Fortune.

The game earned 75-76% from critics and “mostly positive” reviews (73% rating) from Steam users. The peak online project on the Valve site reached 3397 people, which turned out to be a weak result even by Ubisoft on Steam.
