In a conversation with investors, they also mentioned the Stop Killing Games initiative and the “imminent” release of the remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

On July 17, details of the latest report from Ubisoft executives to investors appeared online, and the media paid attention to various topics raised during the discussion - from Star Wars Outlaws to future releases.

Star Wars Outlaws

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot again confirmedthat the game's sales did not meet the publisher's expectations. According to media reports, they sold a million copies in the first month. Guillemot attributed the unsuccessful start of Star Wars Outlaws primarily to the decline in popularity of the Star Wars brand and pointedto the weak performance of the series "Acolyte", which was also released in 2024.

The manager did not deny the technical problems of the game at release. However, according to him, the situation began to change for the better in the first weeks, and the upcoming version for Switch 2 will feel “new.”

About the Stop Killing Games initiative

Guillemot notedthat after the release, Ubisoft provides serious support for its games, but in some cases it “cannot last forever.” So, in 2024, the publisher turned off the servers of the original The Crew.

The manager recalled that users could buy The Crew 2 for one dollar for a certain time, and he called this cost small for the next version of the game, which in the future will receive an offline mode.

Guillemot called the issue of ending support for old games common to the entire industry.

All game publishers face this problem. You provide a service, but nothing is set in stone, and one day the service may be shut down. Nothing lasts forever. We are working hard to make sure everything goes well for players and customers, as it is obvious that support for all games cannot last forever.
