In the Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord series, the former Sith returns.

Lucasfilm's next animated series was announced at the Star Wars Celebration event in Japan.

After the Clone Wars, Maul plans to revive his crime syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.

At the Lucasfilm Animation 20th Anniversary panel at Star Wars Celebration Japan, surprise guest Sam Witwer took the stage to talk about his return to the galaxy as the star of the next animated series, Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord.

Witwer first played Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and then reprized the role in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Rebels". In the new series, which takes place after the events of the final season of The Clone Wars, Maul rises again to lead criminal gangs.

Fans who attended the panel in person were given the opportunity to get an early look at the series' new animation style by watching it in the audience. 

Star Wars: Maul - Lord of Shadows is currently in production and will premiere on Disney+ in 2026.
