Violent scene cut from Star Wars: Acolyte

Star Warscontains dark moments, but The Acolyte may have included a scene comparable to the adult R-rated projects.

Leslye Headland's show debuted Kimir, a ruthless Sith Lord who single-handedly defeated several Jedi on the planet Khofar. Disney and Lucasfilm canceled the project, leaving the character's mysteries unanswered. However, we know for sure that he is one of the most ruthless in the era of the Rise of the Republic.

According to the publication Screen Rant, as part of a fan festival in Denver, Manny Jacinto spoke about an intense scene that was decided to be deleted. His character participated in it.

Star Wars has always been for a wide audience, but you want to see something brutal in these battles... I think there was one moment where I took one Jedi and slammed his head into a rock. We wanted to show how cruel this guy can be, without the slightest remorse.

Why Star Wars should experiment with an R rating

A more violent Kimir could have benefitedThe Acolyte, setting the series apart from other projects in the franchise. True, it is unlikely that this would have saved the show from cancellation. Fans criticized him for something else. Interestingly, the series has good viewing ratings.

Although the lightsaber duel on Hofar was already brutal (considering that Kimir killed one Jedi after another), it could have been darker. Overall, it's time forStar Warsto experiment.

Given that Marvel Studios has already begun releasing R-rated projects (Deadpool and WolverineandDaredevil: Reborn), Lucasfilm may follow suit. It might be worth starting with a non-canon story to see how fans react.

With greater creative freedom combined with exploration of adult themes, Star Wars can be successful with an R rating. In essence, the PG-13 rating limits writers.
