The classic space flight simulator Star Wars X-Wing, originally from the era of the beginning of video games, has found a second life on the modern Unity engine. It's only an alpha version for now, but it's already getting a lot of attention. This is an open source project - all enthusiasts can improve the gameplay and the content of the universe in their own way.

The game now supports modern gamepads, which requires a radical upgrade of the interface. This is especially noticeable in virtual reality, which adds elements of interaction with the cockpit of a starship. Modders have a variety of customization and calibration options to control the difficulty of gameplay. You can also choose between original MIDI DOS iMuse tracks, CD audio from the Windows version, or remastered iMuse tracks.

To install XWVM, you will need 8 GB of RAM, a DirectX 12 or Vulkan compatible video card with at least 2 GB of video memory, plus 5 GB of disk space. The Linux version officially only supports Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 and requires the Gnome environment running on top of X11 or Wayland.
