Star Wars: TOP 10 favorite games

[Thursday, May 15, 2025]

May 4th is celebrated around the world as the so-called Star Wars Day. All because of the phrase May the force be with you, which became a kind of unofficial slogan of the entire franchise. It is consonant with another phrase - May the 4th be with you (English: May the 4th be with you). Last year, in honor of this day, I made my top list of major films from a galaxy far, far away. This time we will talk about games. Well, yes, everything is as always: this is my personal subjective list, no more and no less.

No. 10. Star Wars: Empire at War

I’ll say right away that this game is ranked so low for a very subjective reason - I’m not a very big fan of the strategy genre.

In all other respects, Star Wars: Empire at War is a unique project. Despite my attitude towards strategy games, I always enjoyed this game when I played it after school. If this list had been compiled by someone else, then Empire at War would probably have taken a place in or near the top three.

The game has two types of battles: ground and space (personally, I always liked the latter more). There is a classic set: equipment from the universe, familiar heroes with their own abilities, and so on.

The campaign offers a step-by-step capture or liberation of the entire galaxy. You can even create a death star and destroy planets, isn’t that cool?! It’s just a pity that we are talking exclusively about the period of the empire, I would have wanted to play the same strategy game about the clone wars and about earlier periods. Although... maybe you should take a closer look at the mods?

No. 9. Star Wars Battlefront I and II (new)

In ninth place I have a restarted multiplayer series created by the DICE studio under the patronage of Electronic Arts. A total of two parts were released: in 2015 and 2017.

I bought the first part around the same time I bought my PS4 - at the end of 2018.Then I played quite a bit, because it was difficult to play shooters with a gamepad when I wasn’t used to it, and the first part was already empty, since the second was at its peak. In general, I liked the gameplay and the graphics - especially the graphics.

I played the second one much later - around 20-21 - when it was distributed on the Epic Games Store. There was a cool campaign (it’s a shame it was short) and a highly improved gameplay with the addition of heroes and various modes, and most importantly, the game is still alive, unlike the first part.

No. 8. Star Wars LEGO

On the eighth line I put all the LEGO games in the universe at once - there were a lot of them, but, with the exception of small changes, their essence does not change from game to game: you go through levels associated with the events of the films, you fight, you laugh with the delivery characteristic of LEGO games, you collect coins and then spend them on all sorts of fun things.

Personally, I played the classic games - the prequels and the original trilogy. As with Empire at War and many subsequent games, this was in my childhood. True, in this particular case, we played this game with a friend four-handed - there is a local co-op there, and it was cool!

No. 7. Star Wars: The Old Republic

I would like to give Seven to the MMO game Star Wars: The Old Republic. Yes, I know that this genre is not held in high esteem these days, and it’s not that easy to play, and many will probably say that there were better Star Wars and MMOs, but I repeat, this is my top.

The project is captivating primarily because of its atmosphere from the times of the old republic and its plot. Well, different classes, which is common for RPGs and especially MMOs, races and a huge bunch of available planets.

It’s just a pity that it takes more than one hundred hours to go through all this stuff, but it’s cool.

No. 6. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

The Starkiller story is in sixth place for me. I've played The Force Unleashed many times on a variety of devices, from a Nintendo DS emulator to a PC.All of a sudden, I spent the most time in it on PSP, back in 2012. I should probably get it on Switch - they say this is the best version of the game today.

The combat system here still feels very cool, and the plot about Darth Vader's apprentice who destroys the remaining Jedi and gradually realizes that he is drawn to the light (let's call it that) is a classic for the universe in a good way.

I haven't touched the second part, but from what I've heard about it, it's not nearly as cool as the first in terms of story (although I could be wrong), but I still might like the gameplay. It’s just a pity that with the advent of Disney, all this became a legend.

No. 5. Star Wars Battlefront I and II (old)

And again the Star Wars: Battlefront duology, but this time it’s a classic one, which was created by Pandemic Studios in 2003 and 2005, respectively.

Even though these were multiplayer projects, they turned out to be so cool that I spent dozens of hours of my life in them, even without an Internet connection - I stupidly fought with bots and I loved it.

Everything is as always: ground and space battles, different classes and heroes - in the first part they were controlled by the computer, and in the second the player could take control of them after he received enough points. Fun!

In 2024, a remaster of this duology was released on modern platforms, and if you like the new parts of Battlefront 2015-17, then you must try the original! Although this is problematic for several reasons...

No. 4. Star Wars: Republic Commando

One step away from the top three is the shooter Republic Commando, which tells about the elite Delta squad, consisting of four clone commandos - we play as the commander.

The plot takes place, as you might guess, during the clone wars. The player will visit Geonosis and Kashyyyk, we will study the insides of spaceships, and the entire campaign will stretch over several years with timeskips between missions - from the beginning to the end of the clone wars.

The ending, unfortunately, turned out to be sad, and we never got to see the continuation. But even so, I remember how my friends and I discussed this game and were waiting for the second part. There were times.

? No. 3 — Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor duology

The latest that is in this list. Let's be honest, Respawn's games have a lot of flaws, from objective ones, where lightsabers don't feel like lightsabers at all, to subjective ones - personally, I don't really like metrovanias with mandatory backtracking, because it's tiring. Fortunately, Survivor added the ability to teleport between rest points and this has become significantly less.

But even despite the problems, one thing cannot be taken away from these games - they are made with soul, almost like before. In the era of Disney, this is a great rarity.

Here you empathize with the characters, are happy when they succeed (hello kiss between Cal and Merryn) and sad when one of them dies (no spoilers here!). Unfortunately, there is very little of this in games these days.

I really hope that the third part will not lower the bar and will adequately complete the Cal Kestis trilogy. And so, I would like him to appear in films or TV series - but this is rather just a dream.

? No. 2 - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Duology

Here I will cheat a little and put in second place a game (or rather two games) that I just started playing, but which I fell in love with and the plot of which, unfortunately, was heavily spoiled for me.

The KOTOR duology is a legend of the gaming Star Wars. It opens up and expands the universe in a way that no one has done before or since the release of these games. And the aforementioned Star Wars: The Old Republic became the legacy of this series, and this already says a lot.

The phrase fits well here: “This is a classic, you need to know it!” - even if it’s already becoming painful to play them today, I’m really looking forward to the remake of the first part. I hope it will come out and Saber Interactive will not let you down - after Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the trust in them is maximum!

? #1 - Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

I give the gold to the Jaydai Academy. In general, here you can insert the entire Jedi Knight series, but I played a lot in the academy: I went through the story a few times and spent many hours in multiplayer (not exactly an incredible amount, but a couple of dozen for sure).

I love this game for the story, the characters, even the lore - it was interesting to learn about Mark Ragnos. And of course, for the combat system. Oddly enough, in these games, it turned out to be a reference and no one was able to repeat it - neither Fallen Order with Survivor, nor The Force Unleashed, although both of them did a good job.

I even played a fan mod/sequel - Escape from Yavin IV - although I never finished it, although I got quite far.

Last year, my friends and I bought Jedi Academy on Steam and spent several more hours in the multiplayer, which, suddenly, was still alive with fans - and this in a game from 2003!

Over the entire existence of the franchise, a lot of games have been created based on it: from young to old. Many of them have become truly legendary not only for fans of a galaxy far, far away, but also for players in general.

In recent years, unfortunately, few of them have been released, and the only more or less high-quality series remains the Star Wars Jedi duology from Respawn. I would like to hope that there will be more of them and the announced remake of KotOR from Sabers and Eclipse from Quantic Dream still came out and amazed us with their quality. And then you see, someone else will take the initiative. Let's see.
