Lucasfilm confirms new Star Wars games

It will come as no surprise that there are even more Star Wars games in development. The franchise continues to thrive, despite some setbacks.

It looks like Lucasfilm and Disney have finally decided to fully monetize the galaxy far, far away in the gaming industry. The success of recent releases such as Galactic Racer and Zero Company is a clear result of this new approach.

Lucasfilm Games Vice President Douglas Reilly said that the company's approach to developing new games is changing dramatically. In an interview with The Game Business podcast, he noted that the time for exclusive deals has come to an end. Now not only one publisher is responsible for projects (previously it was EA). That's why small studios, such as Fuse Games (Galactic Racer), are now getting licenses.

You don't have to be one of the top five publishers to create a great Star Wars game. We have high standards for quality, so we want to make sure that players get a truly rewarding experience. And this usually means collaborating with more experienced teams, as opposed to newcomers who do not yet have a track record of successful projects.

What to expect from Star Wars games?

What is especially important is that Riley lifted the veil of secrecy over exactly what projects Lucasfilm Games is developing in collaboration with small studios. According to him, fans can expect a variety of projects - both large and intimate. Apparently, they will be closer in spirit to recent releases.

This doesn't mean we won't see blockbusters anymore. At least Star Wars Jedi 3 is in development. Recently it also became known about Battlefront 3 from DICE and Respawn.

The new approach will diversify the list of game adaptations. This universe is so vast that it cannot be limited to just first-person shooters or action-adventure games.
