Some Star Wars projects have faced apparent delays, putting the future of the franchise in a bit of a bind.

The fate of another planned film is in big doubt after news from Taika Waititi. The director of Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbithas been linked to the Star Wars project since 2020. However, significant progress was not achieved.

In an interview with Inverse Waititi confirmed that work on his film has been suspended. The director noted that because of this, he and screenwriter Tony McNamara switched to another project. Although details of their new film have not yet been revealed, it is clear that they have moved away from a galaxy far, far away.

The project is in deep freeze. I have about 4 other films that I'm trying to make.

What happened to the project?

Waititi's film was first announced in May 2020. He was supposed to act as director and co-writer of the script. Lucasfilm even mentioned this project during the presentation of its future works in December 2020, noting Waititi's unique creative approach.

The painting never received an official title. The release date and production schedule also remained a mystery. Plot details were kept secret, leaving fans unsure where the story might fit into the overall timeline.

Similar difficulties arose in other full-length projects. Recent signals suggest the studio has shifted its focus to films that are more closely related. Among the upcoming plans is a new trilogy.
