EA closed BioWare
On October 21, BioWare announced that the studio was closed. The developers have clarified that production of the new part of the Mass Effect franchise is being discontinued.

The BioWare social network account published an appeal to fans - the team thanked the community for their support:
For over 30 years, BioWare has been more than just a studio. It was home to storytellers, developers, and players who brought our worlds to life. Baldur's Gate. Neverwinter Nights. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Dragon Age. Mass Effect. Anthem. Now, after more than three decades of shared adventures, BioWare is shutting down and work on the next Mass Effect is ending early in development. Writing these words is incredibly difficult. Our focus right now is on our incredibly talented team who put their hearts into these games, and supporting each other through this challenging time. What generations of BioWare employees have created together is worthy of recognition and remembrance. These games became so much more because you played them, argued about the decisions you made, fell in love with the characters, and made these worlds your own. From all of us at BioWare, thank you for being the most important part of our history.
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier said that Electronic Arts will cut “about 400 jobs,” which is about 3% of the total number of employees; including about 50 in BioWare.
