5 Things We Learned at the Ahsoka Panel at Star Wars Celebration Japan

The highly anticipated second season of Star Wars: Ahsoka doesn't begin filming until next week, but that doesn't mean the cast and crew haven't prepared plenty of previews, teasers, and a pre-production teaser to share with audiences at Star Wars Celebration Japan.

The jury included creator, writer and showrunner Dave Filoni, executive producer Jon Favreau, and Ahsoka herself, Rosario Dawson (they were joined a little later by a special guest).

Favreau called himself the show's number one fan and an "early viewer" of the second season, having had a front-row seat to Filoni's entire creative process. As he puts it, “He draws all the time. It's his creative process that just flows out of him. Then it becomes a script, and then it becomes a collaborative art.”

What does Favreau expect from the second season? “I could go on and on about the visuals, the sets, the fights, the ships,” he said, “but the show is all about family and relationships, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the relationships develop.”

Release date for the third volume and the new spin-off series “Star Wars: Visions”

Today at Star Wars Celebration Japan, there was an exciting announcement from the Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 panel. After Lucasfilm's James Waugh announced the release date for nine new short films Star Wars: Visions - October 29, 2025 - he announced a brand new a spin-off series of longer stories from Star Wars: Visions.

He invited the writer and director of The Ninth Jedi to the stage, Kenji Kamiyama, who thanked the audience for such support and enthusiasm for Kara and Juro's adventures in The Ninth Jedi and the upcoming Hope's Child. He then announced that fans would watch Kara's journey continue in an all-new spin-off called Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi.

Witwer first played Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and then reprized the role in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Rebels". In the new series, which takes place after the events of the final season of The Clone Wars, Maul rises again to lead criminal gangs.

Fans who attended the panel in person were given the opportunity to get an early look at the series' new animation style by watching it in the audience. 

Star Wars: Maul - Lord of Shadows is currently in production and will premiere on Disney+ in 2026.
