George Lucas never seemed particularly interested in apologizing for the Star Wars prequels.

He explained them. Defended. Rethought. From time to time, he shrugged his shoulders in response to criticism, like someone who had already heard every possible complaint about Jar Jar that you could think of on the Internet.

But in a new interview with A Rabbit's Foot Lucas makes one of his simplest arguments:

“Well, it's a children's film. It has always been a children's film."

This phrase will make someone angry.

It's also entirely consistent with how Lucas has talked about Star Wars for decades.

No sooner had former Epic Games Store general manager Steve Allison taken up the post of director of business development at Saber Interactive than he already declassified the release dates for the long-suffering remake of the iconic role-playing game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic from BioWare.

Recall that the reimagining of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was presented in September 2021 and was originally created by Aspyr Media, but amid problematic production, it was transferred to Saber Interactive in the summer of 2022. Since then, the studio has already confirmed three times that the remake is not dead.

As users of Reddit noted, Ellison, in a conversation with a fan (presumably on LinkedIn), mentioned that a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is slated to become part of Saber Interactive's gaming lineup in 2028, but plans may still change.

When Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic came out on Xbox in July 2003, it didn't just give players another Star Wars game.

This gave them a galaxy they could actually shape.

That was the difference.

Before KOTOR, games in the Star Wars universe had already done a lot: space simulators, shooters, strategies, arcade action games, pod racing and many other unusual experiments that most franchises would never dare to attempt. Our complete archive of every Star Wars game ever made makes this story almost absurd in hindsight.

But KOTOR made a different impression because it didn’t try to repeat the plots of the films.

This was an attempt to allow players to immerse themselves in the world of Star Wars as an RPG.

There are many ways to experience Star Wars.

You can control an X-wing fighter. Swing a lightsaber. Command clone troopers. Betray the Republic. Join the ranks of the Sith. Save the galaxy. Destroy the galaxy. Spend 140 hours in an MMO arguing with a companion who definitely deserved better dialogue options.

Or in PowerWash Simulator 2 you can cleanse the entire galaxy.

Honestly? Fair.

FuturLab has released a new video for developers dedicated to the upcoming addition PowerWash Simulator 2 STAR WARS Pack, in which team members talk about their connection with “Star Wars” and the work done to adapt a galaxy far, far away into a game where you have to wash dirt off objects with high-pressure water. The add-on will be released on July 16, 2026 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

Spaceballs: The New has a plot summary and teaser poster, and some of the cast will be attending SDCC for a panel discussion in Hall H on Friday, July 24, with the sequel scheduled to premiere on April 23, 2027. May Schwartz be with you!

Plot summary: –

Somehow the Dark Helmet has returned! Forty years after the events of the first Spaceballs film, fifty years after the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and a year after the events of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the galaxy is once again under threat.

A menace so evil, so unstoppable, so completely devoid of any original ideas that it has vowed to bring back the past... down to the last drop.

With Lone Starr in hiding, Queen Vespa on the throne, and Schwartz's forces more depleted than a movie franchise releasing TV episodes in theaters, the only hope for the galaxy remains Vespa's unruly son, Prince Starburst, and a mysterious palace advisor named Destiny.

Together, they must find Lone Starr, Yogurt, and any other iconic characters fans demand before they learn the hard way that while some threats can be dealt with, the reboot is not one of them.

The film “Spaceballs: New” will be released in theaters only on April 23, 2027.
