Star Wars: New Jedi Order writer talks about his vision

George Nolfi, who was recently named the new screenwriter for Star Wars: The New Jedi Order's Rey Skywalker, spoke with Film Stories about his approach to filming. He raised the idea of potentially delving into the politics of a galaxy far, far away, as George Lucas did before him:

“If you think about George Lucas and the six films he made and the universe he created, it’s actually very much tied to broader political ideas,” the screenwriter said. “It’s not about the present day per se, but about imperial n*cism and the Roman Empire.”

“The democracy of the Roman Empire falling into decline and becoming an empire, and the eternal story of how people organize against chaos, and then the tools that help human societies contain chaos become tools of oppression.”

“So that's really important to what I think George Lucas was trying to say,” Nofly continued.

“And one of the great things about science fiction and Star Wars—it's almost like science fiction or space opera—is that you can raise the deepest questions without feeling like you're in a philosophy class or a political science class or reading today's newspaper.”

This says a lot about the writer's vision and gives an idea of what The New Jedi Order could be and what topics it will touch on.

Otherwise, the plot of the film will revolve around Rey, who is now a Jedi Master and seeks to create a new Jedi Order, trying to resist the dark forces that want to stop her. The film is expected to serve as an epilogue to the controversial sequel trilogy, which may go some way to making up for the questionable creative decisions made in those films.

Ubisoft announced the release of the next patch for the action movie Star Wars Outlaws. Update 1.5.1 was not particularly large-scale; its main innovation is support for Nvidia 50-series GPUs on PCs and a PSSR update on PlayStation 5 Pro.

Star Wars Outlaws on PC now supports DLSS 4 technologies with Multi Frame Generation for the GeForce RTX 50 series, which improves FPS through the use of artificial intelligence. DLSS 4 also provides faster frame generation, improved stability, lighting and motion detail.

In addition, the patch adds support for Nvidia 5 series GPUs on PC and fixes a couple of game bugs. It takes up from 1.93 GB on PlayStation 5 Pro to 3.65 GB on Xbox Series.

When I was younger, Star Wars games were coming out all the time. Under the direction of George Lucas, the saga ran like a well-oiled machine, and the fan base grew with each new film. Several games were timed to coincide with the release of the first episode, but none of them were particularly successful. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Obi-Wan were included in the lists of the worst releases, and Star Wars: Episode I Racer is still considered the best. As for Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles, it falls somewhere in the middle. The critics didn't like it, but millions of young space opera fans didn't complain. The game allowed you to control several Jedi at once, visit all the places from the film and feel like a hero. In other words, cool.

The sequel trilogy of the Star Wars franchise (episodes 7-9) turned out to be controversial. Both in terms of reputation and in terms of finances, these films are now hated by almost all fans of a galaxy far, far away. In this regard, it was difficult to imagine that Disney would decide on any kind of continuation, but they decided - in 2023 they presented us with a film in which Ray, the protagonist of the sequels, would again become the main character.

First, let's take a look at what was wrong with the sequels.

After the House of Mouse purchased the rights to the franchise, many Star Wars fans were seriously scared, deciding that Disney would not be able to do anything worthwhile within its framework. And so it happened: “Mickey Mouse” confirmed all the fears and destroyed the George Lucas franchise with its actions.

The continuation of the story of Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, was announced almost a couple of years ago, and Lucasfilm still can’t decide on the film.

Last year, Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders”) left the project, whose script the management allegedly didn’t really like. He was replaced by George Nolfi (“The Bourne Ultimatum,” “Ocean’s 12”), according to the publication THR.

At one point, it seemed that Star Wars: The New Jedi Order (as the film is unofficially called) was cancelled. The appointment of a new screenwriter indicates Lucasfilm's faith in the film. Perhaps Rey's story is simply so important to the new trilogy that it cannot be abandoned.
